Soneva Koh Kood, Thailand

No News – No Shoes: thats the very essences of Soneva Kiri, probably Thailands most amazing resort. The couple behind the Soneva, Evason and Six Senses resorts, Sonu Shivdasani and Eva Malmstrom-Shivdasani, set up Soneva Kiri with a concept of “intelligent luxury” in mind, that is, the idea that luxury doesn’t necessarily mean everything has to be shiny and high-tech, and sometimes the simple life is the best.
Remote yet accessible by a 90 minute flight from Bangkok on the resort’s private plane, Soneva Kiri sits on Thailand’s 4th largest but least populated island, Koh Kood, in the Gulf of Siam. One of the most exclusive beach resorts in the world, Soneva Kiri offers an unrivalled combination of luxury, environmentally friendly design and unforgettable, authentic Thai experiences. The 36 resort villas (including 11 private residences) are amongst the largest in the world. Located on the idyllic beach or sunny slopes in the rainforest, all have stunning infinity pools, impossibly chic furnishings, personal electric buggies, and impeccable service courtesy of private butlers. Highlights include the open air cinema Paradiso, Benz’ mangrove restaurant, the chocolate & ice cream parlour, the children’s den and the spectacular Treetop dining pod.
Villas are either at the beachfront or in the jungle, and run from one to five bedrooms, all with lots of space to relax and have privacy, even from other people in the same villa. The look and feel is a continuation of the main areas, with lots of wood and large windows allowing natural light into the rooms. Bathroom arrangements are creative; you can have a bath outdoors, or a shower in the sun in all of the villas.

With each villa comes a Mr or Ms Friday on call 24 hours a day, meaning there is no need to worry about anything you might need while on the resort. Staff throughout the resort are equally as helpful.
Rather than building up the bling, there’s an emphasis on decompressing from all aspects of cramped modern life to the full extent – no one wears shoes for example, and free yoga and Pilates classes happen every morning.  There’s also an excellent Six Senses Spa with an extensive menu of stress-relieving treatments.

Lie back in your cushioned lounger and immerse yourself in the magic of Cinema Paradiso, Soneva Kiris open-air “theatre”, a jungle-enshrouded auditorium of cascading cushions over the waters of the reservoir lagoon. Complimentary popcorn  and classic movies every night.
Embark on a journey: cruise through the mangroves of Klong Yai Kee to Benz Restaurant, an open-air lantern-lit eatery on stilts. Continue your soulful trip, discovering the delicacies of a nightly changing nine-course menu prepared by Khun Benz herself using only ingredients grown on Koh Kood and neighbouring Koh Chang.
A resident chocolatier stocks the “chocolate room” – a refrigerated room full of truffles, chocolate milks and other treats. Along with the ice-cream bar with delicious homemade flavours it is available to guests as part of the room rate.
